Client Reviews
From Clients Who Have Been Through the Process
These are accounts from clients at various stages of retirement planning who have used one or more of our services.
Hj. Mazlan bin Othman
Retired civil servant, Petaling Jaya
"I came in unsure whether my KWAP pension calculation was correct. The review took about two weeks from start to finish. The written summary they gave me explained things clearly — I had not realised there was a discrepancy in the contribution period recorded. They told me exactly what I needed to do next and what the likely outcome was. No pressure at any stage."
Entitlement Review — April 2025
Lee Fong Mei
Former private sector manager, Subang Jaya
"My former employer had disputed my EPF contributions during my last two years of service. Internal HR channels went nowhere. Amanah Counsel took the matter forward and resolved it through correspondence with the scheme — no tribunal needed. The process took about three months. The fee was fixed, which helped since I was on a pension income by then. I appreciated that they kept me updated at each stage."
Dispute Representation — March 2025
Rajendran a/l Nair
Semi-retired, Shah Alam
"I was sceptical about engaging a lawyer for what seemed like a straightforward review. What I found was that the review itself was already worth more than I paid — I discovered I had been eligible for a private retirement scheme contribution from a previous employer that had never been processed. They walked me through what steps were realistic and what was likely to be a waste of time. Refreshingly honest."
Entitlement Review — May 2025
Nor Azizah binti Kamarudin
Retired teacher, Klang
"My children helped me find Amanah Counsel when we had questions about my pension arrangement as a government teacher. The consultation was in Bahasa Malaysia which made everything much easier. Nurul Ain was patient and explained each part clearly. The written summary she sent afterward was something my children and I could all refer to. We are now part of the Protection Programme."
Protection Programme — February 2025
Chan Tuck Wah
Business owner approaching retirement, Kuala Lumpur
"My situation was complicated — I have EPF from earlier employment, a company director arrangement, and some assets in Singapore. Lim Wei Hao was assigned to our Programme and handled the cross-border aspects well. Communication has been consistent. I would say the value is particularly strong if your circumstances are not straightforward — a general financial adviser would have struggled with the legal elements."
Protection Programme — ongoing from January 2025
Suraya binti Ismail
Recently retired, Kajang
"I came for the RM 240 review simply to get a proper picture of my EPF position. The review itself was more thorough than I expected — not just the numbers but the context of what I could and could not do with different withdrawal options. I did not proceed with any further engagement because the review showed there was nothing requiring further action. That was a good outcome and I left satisfied."

Detailed Accounts
Selected Client Journeys
Three cases that illustrate how our services have been used — shared in generalised form to preserve client confidentiality.
Government Pension Contribution Period Discrepancy
The Challenge
A retired civil servant suspected that his KWAP pension calculation did not reflect his complete years of service. Three years of secondment to a statutory body had been recorded inconsistently in his service file. He had raised this with the relevant ministry without resolution over two years.
Our Approach
Following an Entitlement Review, we identified the specific statutory basis for including secondment periods in pension calculations and prepared a formal written representation to the ministry supported by his service records. The matter was pursued through administrative channels over approximately four months.
The Outcome
The ministry agreed to recalculate the pension to include the contested period. The adjusted monthly pension reflected an increase of approximately RM 180 per month. The client also received a payment representing the arrears from the date of retirement. Total process: approximately five months from initial consultation.
"I had given up expecting anything to change. When they told me the calculation had been corrected, I had to ask them to confirm it twice." — Client, retired public servant
Employer Contribution Shortfall — Private Sector
The Challenge
A client had worked for a mid-sized private company for eleven years and discovered, after retirement, that employer EPF contributions had been calculated on a lower-than-actual salary basis during the final four years of employment. The difference was material and the employer was resistant to any discussion.
Our Approach
We reviewed the client's payroll records, employment contract, and EPF contribution history to quantify the shortfall precisely. A formal demand was addressed to the former employer on the legal basis of the EPF Act. When the employer did not respond substantively, the matter was referred to the relevant enforcement channel with the EPF Board.
The Outcome
The employer settled prior to formal proceedings, paying the full shortfall plus applicable interest to the client's EPF account. The total recovery was approximately RM 24,000. The matter was resolved within six months of engagement.
"The fee I paid was a fraction of what came back into my account. I wish I had acted earlier." — Client, former private sector employee
Family-Business Retirement Structure — Programme Client
The Challenge
A business owner who had operated through a family company for over two decades was approaching retirement with a mixed portfolio: personal EPF, a self-settled private retirement scheme, director compensation arrangements, and a property held partly in trust. No single adviser had visibility of the full picture.
Our Approach
Under the Comprehensive Protection Programme, we produced an integrated review of the full retirement position across all assets and structures. We coordinated with the client's financial adviser and tax consultant, clarified the trust structure for the property holding, and drafted updated beneficiary nominations across the pension instruments.
The Outcome
The client now has current, written documentation covering each element of the retirement structure and a schedule of annual reviews. Two issues identified during the initial review — one relating to the private retirement scheme drawdown provisions and one regarding the trust structure — were resolved over the first six months of the programme.
"For the first time in years I have a clear picture of where I stand. It gives me peace of mind I did not expect a legal adviser to provide." — Client, Protection Programme
