Why Amanah Counsel
What Sets Our Approach Apart from General Legal Practice
Pension matters require a particular kind of attention — one that combines legal knowledge with patience, discretion, and a willingness to be honest even when the news is not what a client hoped for.

Core Advantages of Working with Amanah Counsel
Each of the following reflects a deliberate choice in how we structure our advisory — not a marketing position, but a working principle.
Dedicated Pension Law Expertise
EPF, KWAP, government pensions, and private retirement schemes are the specific area in which our practitioners work. This is not a side service within a general practice.
Written Record of Every Engagement
Clients receive written summaries, engagement letters, and correspondence records at every stage. Nothing is left to verbal understanding or later recollection.
Candid Assessment — Not Optimistic Advocacy
We assess cases on their merits. If a client's position is weak, we say so before they commit to further expenditure — not after. This saves clients from pursuing matters that are unlikely to succeed.
Unhurried, Client-Paced Process
Clients are never pressed toward a decision. Our engagements proceed at whatever pace suits the individual — including those who need time to consult family members or other advisers before proceeding.
Stated and Fixed Fee Structures
Each service is priced clearly in advance. Fees are RM 240, RM 700, or RM 1,380 according to the engagement type. There are no additions mid-engagement without your prior agreement.
Legal Privilege and PDPA Compliance
All client information is protected by legal professional privilege and handled in compliance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act. Discretion is both a legal obligation and a professional commitment.
Professional Expertise in a Niche Legal Area
Pension law in Malaysia sits at the intersection of employment legislation, trust law, and administrative procedure. It is not taught as a single subject at the Bar, and most general practitioners encounter it infrequently. Practitioners who handle it regularly develop a working knowledge that cannot be replicated by occasional engagement with the subject.
Our team has concentrated on pension entitlement and retirement advisory since the firm's founding. That concentration means we know where cases tend to be decided, what documentary evidence is most persuasive, and how scheme administrators typically respond to particular lines of argument. Clients do not pay for us to learn the area.
A Methodical, Documented Process
Each engagement follows a defined sequence: initial consultation, documentary review, written assessment, and — where the client proceeds — representation or advisory on the basis of that assessment. Clients are informed at each stage what will happen next, and nothing is done without their knowledge.
We do not use client matters as learning exercises for junior staff. Senior practitioners lead every substantive engagement. If we involve more than one practitioner in a matter, clients are told who is working on their file and why.
Service Built Around Client Comfort
Many of our clients are navigating legal matters for the first time. They come with some anxiety about what the process will involve, whether they will be understood, and whether the costs will escalate beyond what they were told. We have structured our service specifically to address these concerns — clear fees, clear process, and practitioners who explain things plainly.
Consultations can be conducted in Bahasa Malaysia or English, whichever the client finds more comfortable. We do not require clients to adapt to the conventions of legal practice — we adapt our communication to them.
Outcomes We Can Speak to Honestly
We do not publish success rate statistics. In advisory work, such figures are difficult to define and easy to misrepresent. What we can say is that clients who complete our Entitlement Review regularly tell us they felt better informed about their position afterwards — and that a meaningful proportion discover entitlements they had not been aware of or had assumed were no longer accessible.
For dispute matters, we have achieved positive outcomes through negotiated settlement, administrative reconsideration, and formal tribunal proceedings. We represent our clients with full commitment to their position while keeping expectations realistic throughout.
How We Compare
Amanah Counsel versus General Legal Practice
Pension matters handled within a general practice firm are often deprioritised. Here is how we differ.
Typical General Practice
-
Pension matters handled as a secondary service within employment or civil practice — reviewed by practitioners without specialist depth.
-
Hourly billing means fees can increase without a firm ceiling unless carefully managed by the client.
-
Initial consultations often proceed to engagement proposals before the client's position has been thoroughly assessed.
-
Advisory may shift between junior and senior staff without the client being informed of who is managing their matter.
-
Communication tends toward legal formality that can be difficult for clients unfamiliar with the conventions of legal correspondence.
Amanah Counsel
-
Pension entitlement and retirement advisory is the firm's dedicated area — practitioners review EPF, KWAP, and private scheme matters regularly.
-
All three engagement types are fixed-price. Clients know their cost at the outset and are not exposed to escalating charges.
-
Every Entitlement Review concludes with a written assessment of whether further steps are worth pursuing — before any additional engagement is discussed.
-
Senior practitioners lead every substantive matter. Clients are told who is working on their file and what their role is.
-
Consultations conducted in Bahasa Malaysia or English. We communicate in terms that clients find useful, not terms that reflect our own professional conventions.
Distinctive Features
What You Will Not Find Elsewhere
Findings Delivered in Writing, Not Just Verbally
Following each Entitlement Review, clients receive a written summary of what was found, what it means, and what options exist. This document is theirs to keep and share with family or other advisers.
Bilingual Advisory (Bahasa Malaysia and English)
Many retirees are more comfortable expressing complex matters in Bahasa Malaysia. All three engagement types can be conducted in either language, and written materials can be produced in either or both.
We Tell Clients When Not to Proceed
If a review reveals that further legal steps are unlikely to be productive, we say so clearly and do not propose further engagement. This is unusual in a fee-generating context, but it is how we believe advisory should work.
Continuity of Adviser for Long-Term Clients
Programme clients are assigned to a specific practitioner who remains their primary contact throughout. The time saved in not re-explaining circumstances at each interaction has material value for clients with complex arrangements.
